CST 300 - Week 3
This week we began our study of ethics in technology. This is something I've been interested in but have never had any formal coursework on. The "Ethics 101" readings were interesting and informative. I'm looking forward to becoming more ethically literate over the course of our upcoming essay. It was difficult to formulate what I wanted to write about into a topic but am hoping the rest of the essay will be easier. Using the study tips from last week has helped. I had my study times more spread out across the week and decided to have more focused, productive study sessions. I went from "studying" 3-4 hours every day, to just picking 3 days where I had a chunk of the day off, studying the same amount of time and still getting all of my work done. Moving forward to next week, I know that I will need to speed up my writing and worry about revising the following week so I don't spend a dozen plus hours forming the basis of my essay.
The handout titled "What a Computer Science Major Needs to Know" was a helpful updated roadmap of topics, tools, languages, and concepts in computer science. I have always had a feeling that you need to have a magical list of skills and knowledge base before you can call yourself a "programmer' I usually find myself not learning new subjects on my own because I'm either not sure if I'll need it or am afraid of learning it the "wrong" way. So, I've always secretly wanted a lit of things I should check off of a list before I start trying to break into the industry.
